If your child is unwell before arriving at school it is recommended they be kept home.
If your child becomes unwell or is injured at school, they will be taken to the medical room for basic first aid. Parents will be contacted if deemed necessary.
In the event of an emergency it is vital that the school has up to date contact numbers for parents and emergency contacts. If your contact details including home, mobile and work numbers, email addresses, your residential address or emergency contact people change please advise the front office staff as soon as possible.
It is important to inform the school if your child has a medical condition which may affect their daily health and wellbeing e.g. asthma, diabetes, allergy to bees or nuts etc. Please inform the administration team of any such conditions so that an emergency plan or daily medical plan can be created if required.
If your child’s health needs change you must inform the school administration immediately. This will allow the school to make changes to an existing plan or develop a new plan if needed.
If your child requires medication that needs to be administered at school e.g. antibiotics, you will need to complete this medical form. Where prescribed drugs are required, the signature of the prescribing doctor must be obtained. If there are any changes to medication there must be an alteration to these forms as they are a legal instruction to those administering the medication. Students must not bring any medication or herbal supplements to school to self-administer. The only medication approved to be kept in bags is asthma puffers.
We ask that all parents regularly check their child’s hair for head lice. If children are found to have head lice or eggs during the day we will contact parents. Children may return to school once treatment has occurred and there are no remaining eggs or live lice. If an outbreak occurs, all parents in the class will be notified allowing preventative action to be taken.
No Hat No Play
Southern Grove Primary is a sun-safe school and has a ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy that is implemented throughout the whole year. Please ensure your child’s school hat is in their bag at all times and has their name clearly labelled.
We also encourage the applying of sunscreen before the student attends each day. Sunscreen stations are located in each teaching block.
The most common food allergies are to peanuts, tree nuts, cow’s milk, eggs soy and seafood. The symptoms of food allergy range from mild to life-threatening, with anaphylaxis the most severe form of allergic reaction. To minimise risk we are an ‘allergy aware’ school. We ask that parents DO NOT provide food for their children that contains nuts (this includes Nutella and satay sauce), as for some children this can be life-threatening.
Information on the exclusion period for communicable diseases is provided by the Department of Health. Parents are asked to notify the school immediately if a doctor has confirmed diagnosis of the following diseases;
- Chicken Pox
- Impetigo (school sores)
- Rubella (German Measles)
- Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
- Glandular Fever
